COP29 NGO Coalition Expands to Become the Global South NGO Platform

Today, the COP29 NGO Coalition, which unites over 500 NGOs from nearly 100 countries, held a hybrid meeting on the topic “The Impact of Climate Change on Urbanization Processes.” The coalition was established in 2024 at the initiative of the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum.

The meeting was moderated by Ramil Iskandarli, Chairman of the Forum’s Board of Directors, and featured a presentation by Dr. Uzodinma Adirieye, head of the Afrihealth Optonet Association (AHOA).

Parvana Valiyeva, a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament and a board member of the National NGO Forum, along with Amin Mammadov, Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, discussed the legacy of COP29.

During the discussions, international NGOs expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will successfully host the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in 2026.

Ramil Iskandarli informed coalition members that, in line with the COP29 initiative, the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform will take place in Azerbaijan in April 2025. Members of the COP29 NGO Coalition expressed their commitment to continuing their activities within this new platform, further deepening and expanding cooperation.

The Azerbaijan National NGO Forum, recognized as a leader among Azerbaijani NGOs, was highly praised for its efforts and leadership in this process.
